The
TRACE Team has developed a new utility to better address backscatter
often referred to as NDR (Non-Delivery Report) spam with MailMarshal
SMTP.
This
problem occurs when spammers spoof a legitimate domain in the return
address line of a spam email. After spamming out millions of
messages to nonexistent email accounts, legitimate companies can be
inundated with thousands of trash NDR messages telling them that the
spammer's message could not be delivered.
In
response to this issue, the TRACE Team has developed a new script
that will be updated as part of the SpamCensor framework. The script
tool, known as NDRCensor, will be pushed out automatically. To make
use of NDRCensor, current MailMarshal SMTP customers must be on
version 6.2 or later and will need to create a new rule to employ
the new script.
Two new
Knowledge Base articles explain how to use NDRCensor and MailMarshal
to deal with backscatter:

NOTE:
NDRCensor has been independently trialled and tested by customers
and will be supported by default in MailMarshal SMTP 6.5 and
subsequent releases. |
